What do I need for school?

I use a color code

Some children do not know how to select materials to take to school each day.

We often use colour codes for our children’s timetables. At the start of a new school, we recommend that you assign one colour to each subject, then maintain that colour throughout their schooling.

TRICK
You can replace colors by geometrical symbols: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, star, etc…

01

The timetable

We recommend you print out the timetable provided by the school at the beginning of the school year or semester, and then assign the colours that your child likes.
For example: math in red, French in blue, history in yellow, …

Make copies of this timetable and place it in strategic spots like the fridge door, on the child’s desk and in the homework notebook.

On each notebook and textbook, add a strip of colour or sticker associated with the subject.

If the child has his own bookshelf, organize textbooks and notebooks by subject and colour.

You can also label specific materials such as geometry tools with the colour of math.

Homework notebook

If needed, the same colour code can also be used in the child’s homework notebook so that they can easily know which materials to bring home at night.

With this system in place, they have a better chance of having the material they need either at school or at home.
