In fact, since the publication of the DSM-V in 2013, the diagnostic reference work of the American Psychiatric Association, Asperger&#8217;s syndrome has been included in ASD i.e. <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">Autism<\/span><\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">Spectrum<\/span><\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">Disorder<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Beginning <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">in childhood<\/span><\/strong>, and more common in boys than girls, this complex neurodevelopmental condition can range from <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">mild to severe.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Affected individuals have <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">impaired<\/span><\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">verbal and non-verbal<\/span> <span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">communication<\/span><\/strong>, and <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">have\u00a0<span style=\"caret-color: #011eaa;\">difficulty<\/span>\u00a0decoding <\/span><\/strong> facial expressions, tone of voice, humor, double meanings and the meaning of gestures. Difficulty in <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">forming bonds <\/span><\/strong> is also present, implying problems at various social levels.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">Repetitive and \u00a0stereotyped behaviors<\/span><\/strong>, are also observed, and their role is to help manage the anxiety they feel. <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">Of normal or superior intelligence<\/span><\/strong>, in addition to social communication problems, many affected children have difficulty coping with noise, bright lights or highly stimulating environments.<\/p>\n<p>Adults, on the other hand, sometimes speak in a rambling or overly formal manner, have topics of conversation often dominated by <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">their own interests<\/span><\/strong>, and can be <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">awkward<\/span><\/strong> at various levels.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1691425556968{background-color: #efefef !important;}&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1689363539544{margin-right: 5% !important;margin-left: 5% !important;}&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;34332&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1691425645192{margin-top: 5% !important;padding-top: 5% !important;}&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1692295135824{margin-top: 5% !important;margin-right: 2% !important;margin-left: 2% !important;padding-top: 2% !important;padding-right: 2% !important;padding-bottom: 2% !important;padding-left: 2% !important;}&#8221;]In <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">1944<\/span><\/strong>, Austrian pediatrician <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">Hans Asperger<\/span><\/strong> described 4 patients with social difficulties and identified the syndrome that would later bear his name.<\/p>\n<p>But it wasn&#8217;t until <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">1981<\/span><\/strong> that his observations became better known, thanks to <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">Loma Wing<\/span><\/strong>, an English doctor, who published a series of studies on children with this disorder. Despite this, many people only learn of their condition in adulthood, when they seek help for anxiety or depression-related problems, often stemming from their relationship problems.<br \/>\nAdmittedly, the characteristics attributed to this syndrome can easily <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\"> be confused with <\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">ADHD or ADD<\/span><\/strong>. In fact, this is often the first diagnosis given to Asperger&#8217;s sufferers, as they often also display an <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">inability to concentrate<\/span><\/strong>, as well as <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">difficulties in coordinating time and space<\/span><\/strong>.<br \/>\nPerception of the individual and of him\/herself improves when those around them understand how he\/she functions, once a diagnosis has been made.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div class=\"ult-spacer spacer-69c643c392fbb\" data-id=\"69c643c392fbb\" data-height=\"10\" data-height-mobile=\"10\" data-height-tab=\"10\" data-height-tab-portrait=\"\" data-height-mobile-landscape=\"\" style=\"clear:both;display:block;\"><\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1692324020645{margin-top: 2% !important;margin-left: 5% !important;}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p class=\"PreformattedText\">Because of their behavioral peculiarities, we often tend to describe such people as <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">rigid<\/span><\/strong> or <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">perfectionists<\/span><\/strong>, as they attach great importance to details that escape the notice of others.<br \/>\nThey also have specific areas of interest that are sometimes <strong><span style=\"color: #011eaa;\">out of the ordinary<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>, and accumulate a wealth of knowledge on the subject.
